SunTrust Park, a $672 million stadium, is the centerpiece of a larger entertainment district that includes apartments, offices, restaurants and more. For David Allen Company, the Braves Stadium project contained over 150,000sf of material, of which 60 different types and sizes of tile from all over the world were included.  Our scope of work encompassed interior and exterior tile work throughout the stadium.  All restrooms and showers, for the fans, ball players, coaching staff, and stadium support staff received tile.  The job also contained four commercial kitchens at each of the hospitality areas.  The party suites and executive suites received custom decorative backsplashes and floor tile. High end finishes were also included at The SunTrust Club, Delta Sky360 Club, Infinity Club and Stadium Clubs.  Every concession received subway tiled walls and the canopies above were tiled using a variety of different tile materials to accent the vendor signs above the soffits. 

 The pace of the job was unprecedented, in that each area of the stadium to receive tile was on a different completion schedule.  The bulk of our work occurred over a 5-month window, which required our workforce to be spread all over the stadium at the same time. Attached to the Stadium is the Braves Administrative building.  It had to be completed months before the rest of the project due to Turner Field being sold and the employees moving into the new facility, which mandated additional safety measures to protect the support personnel.

 Mobilization of materials to the different locations in the stadium was a constant challenge and was key to keep our scope of work on schedule.  All materials for the project were stored on site and distributed using the stadium’s only two pedestrian ramps that take you from the field level to the top of the building.  A typical day for superintendents and/or project management could exceed a walking distance of over 10 miles. We were able to use forklifts to move materials up and down the building to the areas we were working.  As an installation crew completed one area of the project, the next area had to be ready to start as not to interrupt our flow of manpower throughout the stadium.

 Due to the many different types of tile, glass, and stone, various setting materials were kept onsite to complete installation of the complex tile selections. Coordination of field and project management with the general contractor and architect were keys to the success of this project.
